About Me

Picture of Tyler Barry

In 2019, I was working as a General Manager of a small local gelato chain. Throughout my time there, I found myself in a place where I wasn’t able to practice my value for creation within my role. This inspired me to make a bold decision to leave my stable job, and pursue my passions. I wanted to do graphic design but hated the idea of art school. It seemed to lean towards the creative side past my preference. So I began to research jobs in the field of design and discovered Product Design. Reading the job description was exciting. Being able to use both the analytical and creative side of my brain for one job was what I was looking for.

Today I find myself doing what I love in the field of Product Design. The field has been a way for me to practice excellence, quality, and efficiency. Values that I have held for as long as I can remember. My passion for design comes from a deep satisfaction in helping others and being able to do what I love. I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunity to use my hands and mind to create products. Products that solve the small problems that make a big impact on everyday life.

In Pursuit Of

  • Simplicity

“It is always the simple that produce the marvelous” - Amelia Barr

I find that people equate simplicity with less work. When actually simplicity can be more work than complex. Simplicity, to me, is a practice of decreasing the inessentials to master the essentials.

  • Quality

“Quality is remembered far after price is forgotten” - Aldo Gucci

Quality is where trust is built and loyalty is earned. If you’re doing something and not giving it your best, it’s not worth doing.

  • Efficiency

“Efficiency is doing better what is already being done.” - Peter Drucker

Efficiency (for myself and users) is my goal and the only way to achieve it is by spending time effectively.

What I Value

  • Empathy

UX/UI Design is all about designing with the user in mind. The only way to do that well is with a strong foundation of empathy to work with. I’ve been working out mine for years between my personal and professional life.

  • Reliability

I have a solid track record of being reliable and loyal to my commitments. I’m a firm believer that the level of reliability you perform at is directly related to your true core values.

  • Design Thinking

Before I could ever put it into words, I had an eye for what looked good and what worked. Now, having a formal training in design, I’ve learned to hone in on what about a design isn’t working and what it takes to allow elements to come together and compose a beautiful design.
